It’s been a while since I posted, so I thought I should post something. The truth is, there’s not a whole lot to report just yet – next week is when things will start to pick up again.
This week’s focus is trying to recover full mobility (while still being forbidden to lift heavy things.) My right arm sails right through the endless stretches and exercises, but my left arm is showing some signs of “cording” – it’s like there’s a tight rope in my armpit that creates pain in my arm. It’s not awesome, but the stretches are part of the treatment, and if they don’t resolve it, I’ll see a physical therapist to get additional help. It won’t be an issue forever.
Other than that, because my PET scan showed an enlarged thyroid, I’ve got some thyroid function tests in flight. This isn’t a big deal, either, but because some chemo drugs impact the thyroid’s productivity, we’re checking it out. As my oncologist noted, your reward for suffering through a million medical tests is a million more medical tests…
On a happier note, OH MY GOD did we get a lot of cookies. If the cure for cancer was cookies, my house would be creating a cancer-free zone big enough to protect all the neighbors. THANK YOU to all of you who contributed – we’ve stashed a bunch of cookies in the freezer, and pretty much have cookies in every Tupperware container in the house.
And the meal train! There’s so much food here, and of so much variety, it’s incredible. Like with the cookies, we’ve started stashing a few things in the freezer, because there’s been so much generosity, it’s overwhelming. THANK YOU. Everyone has been so very kind.
I stopped posting on the Lotsa Hands calendar because my friends at Nike are coordinating amongst themselves this week – if anyone else signs up, I’d end up with two dinners. Actually, I already tend to get two dinners, so I’d probably get four. 🙂
Some of the cookies:

As you can see, people are embedding unicorn magic in the cookies, to ensure my success at beating this cancer into the ground.
I’ve also received an outrageous number of supportive gifts, from food to blankets and robes to my very first bald-covering scarf. I’m spoiled rotten, it’s like a unicorn-spa-Christmas party here at my house. I don’t even know what to say, everyone has been so kind. I’m not entirely sure how I’ll pay it all forward, but that’s a 2019 challenge for me, to be sure.
Thank you all, for everything.
K
