Kate Finally Updates – And Meal Train

Well, I do finally have some new things to share!

One piece of good news – the surgeon’s request for an earlier time in the OR was accommodated, and my surgery is now in the morning! This means I’m likely to get home on Saturday instead of Sunday, which is great. Not that I don’t find it restful to be in a strange, noisy place with someone checking my blood pressure every 3-4 hours – but I think getting in my own bed will be helpful.

Also, since you have to fast before surgery, an earlier time is better for everyone who has to deal with me.

I’ve also been spinning in circles about how to set up the meal train entries. I picked a website that lets you ask for meals or other help, in case I need other help. But I’m having a little trouble predicting what help I might need. For example, the kids have after school activities and need rides – but their first preference would obviously be that they know the person who picks them up. 🙂 So I’d probably only want to post for help if the usual suspects can’t be there. Luckily, I live near their weekday activities, so it’s a short hop.

So I started posting requests for food, figuring that I know I need help with meals, But for how long? And at what point might I be able to visit with people? Don’t know. And can I just say, “please bring home-baked desserts” without someone ratting me out that I ate cookies for breakfast after the kids left for school? (I believe home-baked cookies have healing powers.)

No surprise to the people I work with that I’d really prefer a more detailed plan. An agenda, facilitation plan, and transition to operations would all be great.

But instead, I’m winging it. Bah.

To get updates or officially pick a time to help me, you do have to sign-up. Then I think that as Mike, Caleb or I post new things to help with, you can subscribe to get them sent to you as alerts or you can just check in. You will also get announcements, when we post them. Mike is set-up as a coordinator, and can post things like: Kate is home from the hospital, or Kate fell down the stairs and broke her nose. (I’ll try to avoid that one.)

Here it is.

Despite how slow I was to get this set-up, I do appreciate that people are looking for ways to help, and I’m very grateful.

Four more days.

Kate

  1. I’m thinking of you, and hoping the surgery goes well (and quick). I’m working on getting my Grandma’s sour cream cookie recipe from my sister – I’d never tell on anyone who ate cookies (or my banana bread) for breakfast! Sumit and I were both sorry we didn’t get a chance to see you this past week, but we were thinking about you (and talking about you!!!)
