PET scan is clear!

Today I went to have a PET scan, to see if my cancer had spread past where we saw it in surgery – and it came back negative! This is a big relief, because the size of my tumor was so impressive, it is assumed to have been hiding in there for quite a while. We were worried that it may have set up camp elsewhere, but there’s nothing big enough to show up on a test.

Yay! When my oncologist called me with the good news, she skipped the whole identifying herself part and immediately said, “your PET scan is negative!” because why bury the lead? So this blog post did the same, violating all good storytelling principles.

I still have to do the chemo and radiation therapy, because once your lymph nodes are involved, things are more complicated than just the tumor. I’ll post more on my preparation for that soon, as I try and figure out the whole bald-for-Christmas thing.

In the meantime, we’re celebrating the moment.

  2. That is FANTASTIC!!!! Now I’m wondering what your bald head will look like (I had a haircut once that basically shaved the back of my head & mine is NOT attractive- wrinkly). Somehow I’m guessing that you have a beautiful bald head! We can make you a pretty colored unicorn ‘horn’ that you can wear…. I envision arts/crafts with Elyse!!! Let us know if treatments will keep you out longer – there are many of us that are still ready to sign up to make some food (my sisters mac/cheese recipe is just waiting)

  3. WOOTHOOT! HUMP DAY! GOOD NEWS!
BALD? We don’t need no stinken hair… that is what Santa Claus hats are for. KEEPING UP THE GOOD POSITIVE ENGERY flowing to you.

  4. Really good news! I am so happy for you and your family! I heard you are doing well (Julie) Keep the spirit high but rest as much as you can!
